CAD/CAM Technological Supporting Centre

The company TechnoCAD S.A was set up in 1998, in order to commercially manage the CAD/CAM Technological Supporting Centre, a project realized with the help of a PHARE FIDEL programme (Local Development Initiative Fund), developed through CDIMM Maramures Foundation (The Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures).

Stages of preparation and implementation of the project:
- in 1994 was established the Computer Aided Design Laboratory at the North University of Baia Mare;
- 1995 - contacts with "Politehnica" University of Bucharest, Fast-2000 and A&C INTERNATIONAL S.A. the sole Autodesk Distributor in Romania;
- 1996 - opening of the Autodesk Training Center at the North University of Baia Mare;
- 1997 - creation of the Initiative Group "TechnoGRUP";
- set up of the Local Consortium NordCAD Baia Mare, following a review study, which showed a great interest in the proposed target to sustain the start-up of the CAD/CAM Technological Supporting Centre in Baia Mare.

The NordCAD Local Consortium was formed of 25 institutions, organizations and companies, also including the Prefecture of Maramures county, the North University of Baia Mare and the Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures (C.D.I.M.M.), which was responsible for the implementation of the project.

The composition of the consortium covers 73% of the local design work and 100% of the territorial activity. The financial resources for the implementation of the project were provided in 40% by the NordCAD Consortium and 60% by the PHARE program of the European Union.

Staff were selected locally, Baia Mare having over 20 professionals authorized by Autodesk. Following a very strict selection, 10 of them were rated at a high level.

The Technological Supporting Centre has had from the beginning four basic directions as follows: the CAD/CAM, the GIS, the Multimedia and the Training department. 

TechnoCAD’s ownership includes 11 legal entities and 20 natural persons, members of the Local Consortium or supporters of the project. The Board of Directors is elected for a renewable three year-period, represented by one of the members.
